I have a Fender deluxe 112 plus and would like the change the Fender 12 inch speaker to a CELESTION 12 inch speaker.

Question - Do I have to keep the same specs as the Fender speaker or can I go from 4 ohm to 8 ohm ?

Typical rule of thumb I've heard and followed w/ success w/ most Fenders is you are most likely going to be OK occasionally halving or doubling the impedance the amp was designed for. I still try to come up w/ a load that matches what it would have originally shipped w/, but I haven't blown an OT on a Fender yet adhering to the doubling/halving guideline.

Match the load or risk blowing up your transformer. And eventually the tubey parts in your power amp section as well.

If you don't match the load (in ohms) you DO risk overloading your output transformer/transistors and shortening the life of your output tubes/transistors but even more importantly to a musician, it CAN change the frequency response (tone) a bit if you have an impedance mismatch.

Thank you for the information, I will go for the CELESTION 12 inch 4 ohm speaker which is the same as the Fender one.

If your amp is 4 ohms 8 is no problem you won't tell the difference unless you have golden ears. Very slight reduction in volume. Done it several time with vintage champ 4 ohm amps.

It'd work with either 4 or 8 ohm, BUT, go with whatever impedance speaker the amp had in it originally. Better safe than sorry.

The 4 ohm speaker in the photo is my standard speaker, so go with 4 ohm. ;)

Uhmm, unfortunately and AFAIK Celestion does not offer 4Ohm speakers, except for the 12T Hot...

Maybe get an external 2x12 cab and load it with 2x 8ohm speakers in parallel?

Played my strat on my sons new amp today using the same lead and guitar. Clear as a bell, no crackles or popping, so it is my deluxe 112 plus that's the problem.
See what it's like when my contact cleaner gets here.

WGS makes 4 ohm speakers, lots of choices.

I gave everything a good clean with holts contact cleaner and, it's as quiet as the grave now, no need to change the speaker. :D

Thanks for all of your help.

So bumping this for a speaker going the other way. I have a Vox AC4TV that I want to put an 8 ohm speaker in. The stock is a 16 ohm speaker. Can I do this without major issues?
