Been meaning to get up there for awhile......and today was the day. What a cool hang in Chattanooga, TN.......

Highlights.......the Gretsch section was pretty rad. No doubt. The Telecasters were killer too.

We got a private tour of the vault(upgrade package where they keep the super choice stuff), and the tour guide was cool enough to let me play a couple of guitars that he said they usually don’t let anyone touch. The first was apparently the ORIGINAL Telecaster prototype that Leo used(who woulda thunk RED?)......that thing knocked me out. SO vibey.

The other was the original Stratocaster proto’s, with my fave of the two being the rare “furniture finish” burst.......it was just gorgeous.

I know nothing... Why is there a guitar museum in Chattanooga?

    Very cool playing Tony!

I didn't know there was a guitar museum in Chattanooga, either. I guess, since the move, I should be finding out if there is a guitar museum in Kansas City.

Sounds like a blast and some great playing as well. Thanks for sharing.

I’m not a Tele guru but I believe the first was white with 3 + 3 tuners on what they some nicknamed a snake headstock. Although I think he called it Esquire. Maybe it’s one of the first prototype Telecasters which is still super cool. I think it’s this one I found in a quick search. He opens the case around 2 minutes in the video on the page for anyone interested.

I’m curious...What’s your estimate on the weight of each of those prototypes?
    How about neck thickness?

Looks like a great trip. I have no reason to go to Chattanooga but if I’m ever there will have to check it out. Thanks for the photos and the playing.

Each was pretty lightweight with substantial necks. The Tele had a soft V.......it was delicious

Yeah, the snakehead is famous. But the guide explained this was one of Leo’s earliest prototypes and one of his personal testers.

Really, what a dream to have held and played the prototypes. Having played it, you’re now part of their history now and your DNA is on them somewhere. ;)

You are one incredible player. My goodness. More than just riffs. There is really good rhythmic feel and timing. I’m going to try to steal a few of those ascending arpeggio licks. Other worldly talent!

    ust riffs.
