That should do fine for a while, if it really sounds like a Plexi you will have a nice, strong clean tone to build from.

That's cause those old orange Cubes are killer! You need one;):D

(I feel ashamed hijacking that thread).
Actually I never did it. I don't like Coke (nor Pepsi nor any cola -even that Breizh Cola we have here). I only drink still water and lots of milk with or without chocolate.

There are very few limitations with a Tele and an old orange Roland Cube 60. Both are simple but produce excellent sounds. Bickert found his tone there and played the daylights out of it.

And a Carr Skylark -- For some reason, this one gets very little use. It is a very fine amp -- Guess I'm just not bonding with it.

Exactly my point. He didn't spend a fortune on gear, he invested his time in his craft.

The Cubans make a really good cola...tropicola I believe it's called. Not as sugary and more fizzy than Coke. Mixes well with rum.

Bickert had an amazing sound, and he didn’t use a high-end archtop. That, in itself, is outstanding. Beyond that, using a simple amp, he created a sound that was warm, round, and appropriate to his brand of Jazz guitar. I really admire this. Gear is great, and God knows I’ve spent a buck or two on gear, but the sound comes from the player, not just the gear.

I have arrived at the conclusion that gear is only the beginning of tone.

Unless your technique is in order, all the gear in the world will not make you sound good. OTOH, even marginal gear sounds good is the right hands.

On the other hand, beauty tone’s in the ear of the beholding...and I beholding these (love these threads, but drooling over everyone’s guitars often costs me money, and Mark, you’ve cost me a lot...and I’m very grateful!)

My two favorite GreTsch/amp matchups, each different and absolutely perfect.

  16. the two electric amps in the household are an AC30, and a 57 reissue fender twin. Neither of which i could run with, even if i was on fire.

I haven't plugged in the Gretsches for years. I think I even got a few amps since.

That's some mighty fine beginnings you've got there.
