I must be missing something... i read a lot of Baldwin era bashing all over the internet. This guitar is perfect, 43 years old and not an issue. Plays and sounds like a dream. And absolutely beautiful. Couldn't have asked for a better introduction into Gretsch guitars. 31886475_879098725624784_6672779251126632448_o.jpg

Very nice! I like Baldwin's too. I've seen some real turds that come out of Brooklyn so I'd take the trash talkin with a grain of MSG.

As always, YMMV, but to my mind, there are two separate and distinct Baldwin-related gripes, neither of which may be entirely justified.

One relates to late Brooklyn Gretsches after the sale to Baldwin. The consensus is that QC suffered in those years. I would suspect that had more to do with the high demand placed on the factory than any changes dictated by Baldwin. And the prevalence of binding rot, it's my opinion that that really isn't a QC issue. More like an unfortunate accident of materials and methods that wouldn't have been apparent at the time.

And the other gripe is what they made in Booneville. The designs changed and they were no longer the "classic" Gretsches that most consider the epitome of Gretsch. But they were solidly built. I don't think many who've played them would disagree.

Models like the Super Chet, Super Axe, etc., aren't really susceptible to either criticism. They're great original designs, well made, with no pre-existing legacy to which they can be compared.

    I totally agree with you.
Tbh I think you have got to take each guitar on its our merits.
I've played crap gretsches from the 50s n 60s with silly price tags on them

There is a definite learning curve to the controls, but they are not to bad
