Probably both. He had, as far as I know a fairly sedentary lifestyle with some questionable choices as a young man inDiet and recreational substances. He was very young. It was very sad. And I think he had the best male voice of his generation.

Myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) - a virus typically causes this, but also cocaine. But not everyone who does cocaine gets it.
Dilated cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart chamber) - cocaine can cause this as well as diabetes, alcohol abuse, genetics
Fatty liver (build up of fat in the liver) - can be caused by chronic viral hepatitis, alcohol, diabetes, genetic high cholesterol.

I don't know if he was a clean living guy, my cardiologist friend sees plenty of people with the top two that are mostly clean living, so genetics can play a role.

Man, I didn't appreciate him back then. But I just listened to him and wow. That voice pulled me in.

Turns out the fatty was his liver. Heart chamber was enlarged too.

Just one man's opinion, but even though Lambert can hit the notes, he doesn't have anywhere near the power behind his voice that Mercury had. Particularly in the higher registers, his voice just sounds thin to me. YMMV.

I would agree. His voice is more theatrical than rock.

I haven't heard him with Queen yet. Theatrical with Queen?

He sounds more like a person trained in musical theatre more than a rock vocalist. Most of the time that works fine with Queen, but on some of the hard rocking songs it’s not as effective. Freddie could pull off both. But still a great performer and well worth seeing.

I'm trying to think of who else could sing with Queen.

Not Paul Rodgers, as good as he is at his own stuff.

    George Michael as above.

Adam Lambert pales in comparison to Marc Martel. I dont know why he isnt on the road with them. He even looks like Freddie. Lambert looks like a Tim Burton left over :) :)
