Good timing, since it is the 40th anniversary of The Last Waltz. Now the bad news: it's $17,000 USD.

I truly love Robbie, his songwriting and the influence of the Band on today's music. In a way I think they (The Band) single handily
created Americana thru their blending of Blues, Folk and New Orleans funk/soul. It took some talented Canadians and one southerner to mine that American motherlode.

Fun, and I love the Band and I love Robbie Robertson's guitar style, but I'm short 17K. If I had the 17 thousand I'd buy ...
    a. used, green 2014 Gretsch Country Club at Gryphon Music in Palo Alto for $2450
    b. used, red, 2104 Gretsch 5422 Centerblock, also at Gryphon, for $750
    c. used, 1958 Gretsch Anniversary with a single pick up at Guitar Center Hollywood for $1350
    d. used, orange Masterbuilt 6120 at GC Hollywood for $5000
    e. used Masterbuilt 6128 in Gold Sparkle from GC Hollywood for $4500
    f. used G6040mcss I saw online for $1800
    g. a new G100ce in black at Haight Ashbury Music in SF for $750

and I'd still have enough money left over to buy dinner and drinks to toast my successes before I went home to play all my fine new and used guitars.

I always loved that clip - Robertson just gets right in there and hardly a beat is missed.

I loved listening to The Band, but buying a replica of Robbie Robertson's guitar for $17k just seems a little over the top.

Are you on the peninsula? I used to work at another music shop, draper's, near gryphon in Palo Alto. Gryphon is a fine shop. Hasn't been there in over 20 years.

Great band, great player and I don't doubt it's a very fine guitar — but a ridiculous price. Just take a '0' off the price and maybe we're talkin'.

$17K? The marketing department at Fender is on drugs.

A strat is a massproduction instrument by concept. Not like a stradivarius or something in this league that has to be carfted by a true master instrumentbuilder. 17K? Laughable.
    Just my humble opinion.

They have nothing to lose by setting the price so high and if someone really wants it and pays the money, everybody is happy :)

As much as I enjoy The Band and Robbie Robertson, I think this is nuts. $17K for a tribute guitar? It's not like it's signed, or was actually played by him, or spent 50 years in an attic after an iconic show---it's a tribute guitar that kinda sorta looks like the one a star used for awhile. It's nothing special in and of itself, and if Fender has more than $170 in it, I'd be massively surprised. $17K is the "We really don't want to sell it" price. It's not even reliced.
