The Buzzcocks' lead singer and guitarist died of a heart attack today at age 63. Too young.

I was attended a college friend's wedding in the early 90s in NYC and went to Bleecker Bob's Records before the ceremony. I pulled out Singles Going Steady (one of the greatest slabs of vinyl ever) and said to another friend, "This wedding makes me think of one of their songs." My friend asked, " 'Orgasm Addict'?" I said, "No, 'Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've)'?"

    RIP Pete.

Just waking up to this news.
    Sad and shocked.
A fellow Mancunian, who wrote one of the most significant songs of specific era in the UK.

Big fan of Pete Shelley and the Buzzcocks. Steve Diggles mam used to live up the road in Blackpool. They'd appear often at Rebellion in town too. Very sad.

    Oh no.

I absolutely idolised him in the early Buzzcocks years, theirs was the only fanclub I ever joined and I got a welcome letter from Pete which was the most wonderful thing in my life.

Back in the early 90s, he was going to produce some tracks for a band I was in. We met twice to discuss it, and I have honestly never felt as nervous and starstruck as our first chat.

I was so scared that he would be an ****hole or (more likely) that I would act like an ****hole through nerves. Turned out he was riotously funny, warm, smiley and wore his genius very lightly. Its a few hours of my life that I'll treasure more than almost any other.

I bought "Singles Going Steady" from a cd store down in New Orleans when I was 11 years old. Definitely one of the life altering albums I had bought, especially by that point.RIP

I got that album when I was like 17 and was blown away; I'm 33 now, to give you a frame of reference

Yeah, I'm 30 now. I had to introduce my girlfriend to them tonight, shame it was on a somewhat melancholy note. She did enjoy them, though

Boy, ain't that the truth! I got it when it first came out, that's 38 years of listening to SGS! Damn fine record, THE quintessential Buzzcocks album.

    RIP, Pete.
