I guess news travels slow in some parts of the world...
As a physician, you are fully aware that holding one’s breath for nearly 43 years could lead to health problems.
I remember, back in the ‘70s, for what seemed like months on end, every night the news would report that Generalissimo Francisco Franco was in a bad way and barely clinging to life. No one cared, but it made the news like clockwork. Finally, he died.
Then, when Saturday Night Live went on the air, Chevy Chase announced that Franco was still dead and doctors didn’t know how much longer he could sustain that condition. That was a comedic touchdown, extra point and field goal, all in one.
From my viewpoint, the end of a fascist dictatorship only a few hundred miles away was a little more important than it seemed over here I suppose.
What??? ... Franco's dead????
