    Return to Rajasthan!

I had time to make a lightning 4-day return to Jodhpur in Rajasthan, NW India.

Mrs A was going shopping and I was invited along (actually I invited myself and insisted on going for the ride. 2 flights on Singapore Airlines from Sydney to Mumbai via Singapore, a few hours in the Mumbai Airport Hotel and then a domestic flight from Mumbai to Jodhpur. 18 hours flying time, 29 hours total travel time.

For me, this is the best time to visit, it’s the coolest time of the year and the weather is good. We are staying at the Ajit Bhawan Hotel again, this time in one of their unique tent bungalows.

Looks like fun. I am sure relief from the conflagration is a small bonus.

Nice! I spent several days in Udaipur for work back in 2004 and I'd love to go back to Rajasthan sometime as a tourist.

Haven’t been to Rajasthan since the late 80s. What a place. No cellphones back then, no computers and no private cars. I went for a week and stayed 2 months. I’d love to go again. The Ajit Bhawan looks awesome!

Udaipur (the Lake City) is a lovely city, we really enjoyed our time there and made some great friends. If we had more time on this visit we would have gone back there again.

India is noisy, dirty, chaotic and has a huge contrast between grinding poverty and absolute opulence. You have to be insane to drive in the traffic there, especially when the cows have right of way. I love it, the food, the history, the culture and the people!

Went for a ride in a tuk-tuk yesterday. Met a driver named Ramesh and told him Mrs A had split the sole on one of her shoes so he took us to a roadside cobbler. ten minutes to fix and $2 later we were back on the road. I spent the 10 mins checking out the roadside fruit and vege stall.

OK, 3 flights Jodhpur to Sydney via Mumbai & Singapore, 24 hours travel time and I'm back in Oz. The last few days in Jodhpur were so intense with 10-hour shopping days that I didn't have time to take any more photos. For those that wanted to see more pics I will post some from previous visits. It's a fascinating place with an old fort on the hill built in 1459.

2 x 20 ft containers of old Indian furniture, bronze statues and giant cooking pots, antique metal lamps, marble plates and carvings, old fabrics, sculptures, artworks, vintage toys, gigantic carved wooden doors and old stone columns from temples. This time we bought the entire facade of a building, it will have to be partially dismantled to get it in the container. Most of the items will need to be restored but some will be left in the original condition. Mrs A does not want me to post any of the 300+ photos of what she acquired for her shop in Oz.
