I wonder why he signed up for 3 years? Was that the minimum period? He must have had a very different idea of what it be like.

Minimum enlisted hitch back then. That, or get drafted for two. An enlistee got a possible choice in jobs; a draftee got none.

I was going to mention that Jimmy Page was a big Danelctro\Silvertone fan it was one of the main guitars he regularly played along with his Les Pauls and Telecasters. I guess way before Jack White of the White Stripes made it cool to play "budget guitars" ( in his case the old Airplane guitars) Page and Hendrix were already showing that even a cheap guitar in the hands of a maestro can sound golden!

I'm going to guess that by the time Vietnam really got rolling, it was a lot tougher to get discharged for <insert amusing euphemism here>. It seems like a pretty easy get-out-of-jail-free card otherwise.

It is most definitely a "Silvertone" (Sears) Danelectro, "Betty Jean," named after a sweetheart back home in Seattle. It's a 58 or 59 Danelectro Shorthorn 3012. And it's copper colored, nor red (hence the 3012)

According to his Wiki he faked homosexuality to get discharged. Whether or how it correlates to said euphemism I don’t know, but I wouldn’t put it past him.:)
