Wow. Whoever is doing this stuff really needs to call and talk with the Fender Custom Shop because they are apparently CLUELESS when it comes to relic’ing.
I could barely type this from laughing at a $6K pricetag. Yeah right! I’d have to drink whatever YA’ll have been tipping back on!!! Hahahahahaha!!!!

GIBSON - please hear me because I care for you.

    STOP with the:
    *relic’ing(you suck at it)
    *weird trying-too-hard guitars nobody wants
    *robotic ANYTHING
    *terrible Gibson’s but great Epiphones

    DO THIS:
*make incredible Les Pauls that are worth their price tag
*make incredible SGs that are worth their price tag
*make incredible arch tops that are worth their price tag
*make incredible acoustic guitars that are worth their price tag
*do NOTHING ELSE because......well......you are embarrassing yourself and driving your name into the ground. And it makes me sad.

Yep, that sho nuff is hideous. I was just watching the Memphis Slim video i just posted and marveling at how killer Mickeys 335 is, i agree Gibson should stick with the classics.
The heritage they have is priceless, its a shame to see it tarnished.

The whole idea of relic'ing is ridiculous, but even if one accepts the concept, this is just a lame job of relic'ing. And to my mind reduces the value of the underlying instrument considerably.

I like relics, and yet I agree. This is hideous. To me, it should cost about a grand under a Standard in this condition.

You know, I actually appreciate Gibsons a great deal, and I have a number of them, and find them to be very fine instruments. I've toured their Memphis facility a couple of times, and what I have seen there is impressive. While I recognize that they are priced higher than Gretsch instruments, I believe that this is a function of the fact that it is cheaper to build in Japan than the US. All of that being said, I very much agree that this offering is an embarrassment. I have to believe that this was a factory special run commissioned by Musicians Friend, and not something that Gibson conceptualized. It's just in poor taste and poorly executed to boot! By the way I have seem several Gretsch FSRs which were commissioned by Cream City (my favorite Gretsch dealer) and they were all so beautiful. Gibson should have talked Musicians Friend out of doing this one, but obviously no business wants to turn down orders.

I agree that the idea is nuts. It is to satisfy the need to make people think you've actually been out there doing something. Ha. An 18 year-old with a relic'd guitar makes no sense.

I mean, that’s the classic haters case and is a totally reasonable argument.

HOWEVER - I don’t have a problem with relics. I have a problem with TERRIBLE relics. And I REALLY have a problem with terrible SIX THOUSAND DOLLAR relics!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! This is what I would expect from a $199 “relic”.

Ree-dam-diculous! But I knew Gibson had lost their minds when they did the 30% price raise across the board, and put the robo-tumers on ALL guitars, whether you liked it or not.

    Can you say "sinking ship"?

I’ve seen Fenders with the same pathetic relic job and I didn’t like it any better on them. Gibson needs to pull their head out into the fresh air and find a way to expand their market without resorting to gimmickry. Their massive price increase with unwanted robotic tuning machines was a study in poor decision making. I’ve seen it more than once, companies decide that the customer must dance to their tune and usually find out that their customers are free to choose other brands. Frankly, I’m surprised that Gibson survived their robo-tuner disaster.
