I was reading a review of the series of concerts Neil Young did first in Minneapolis (4 acoustic shows) and then in Winnipeg. (2 electric shows with Crazy Horse.) It said that Neil Young joined a Toronto based R & B band called The Mynah Birds in the mid 60s, headed by Rick James! I have a hard time seeing the two of them working together in an R & B band. Apparently they were signed to Motown, but there was a little problem - James was on the lam from the US Navy and served a year in jail. Nothing was ever released.

Can anyone else think of odd pairings like that? Which surprisingly worked and which didn't?

Imagine NY singing Super Freak. Jimmy Fallon could do that.

Saw a video of the Lawrence Welk show recently. A nice couple, all dressed up, were singing Brewer & Shipley's "One Toke Over the Line". One of the oddest musical things I've seen in quite awhile.

Oddly, the Lady Gaga/Tony Bennett duet worked out really well. Hooda thunk it?

Lady Gaga performing with Metallica. Just sounded freaking weird to hear a songbird sing along with a dude shouting.

Odd pairing, yet somewhat similar.....one of my favorite Johnny Cash songs

If you haven't seen this, it's a must watch. And, of course, what makes it so hilarious is that it's a 100% accurate facsimile of the original.

When The Cult’s Billy Duffy was a kid starting out in Manchester England, he played with a younger singer who would grow up to be Morrissey.
Would love to have heard what that was like.

Lou Reed and Metallica made an album. I can’t bring myself to listen to it though.

Bob Dylan and the Hawks. I'd say it worked out pretty well, but it was a bizarre pairing at the time.

That's an interesting choice. But you make a good point. Now, it seems like a perfectly natural pairing. But at the time, I think most people thought it was pretty crazy.
