Got me as sweet 1970 DeArmond for my '69 Harmony 12...
The Box Turtle is Wally, he's happy too .
Where did you find that?
Pretty cool. I have been looking at the reissues. Just looking though. Originals are scarce over here.
There is a guy making very cool sound hole pickups called Victory, i have a couple of his pickups in other styles but ive been tempted to try a sound hole one. The Gretsch Deltaluxe looks great too. I have seven old DeArmond's now, i snatch them up when i can (they aren't very common around here either).
How does it sound? I have always wondered what a small soundhole pup would sound like in my Little Martin.
I remember back in the 70s buying one of those. I use to try and use it in my Fender Newporter acoustic live through my Fender Bassman amp and it sounded like turds. I think I just gave it away. I'd like to have it today because I think it would sound better when it was used through a full range system.
Yeah, i can't imagine it through a Bassman.....feedback anyone?
I use them at low to moderate volumes through guitar amps but through an acoustic amp or P.A. they can go loud. They kill through a small, breaking up combo like my Supro.
I used to use a Dean Markley soundhole pickup in my Gretsch Hawaiian. Sonded great.
Yours looks far better, though. Congrats.
Yeah it sounded awful but I was a teenager and didn't know any better.
I had a couple of them years ago and didn't get sounds i liked from them so i traded them on, turns out i just needed different strings, i use pure nickel or monel with them now.
Good God almighty. Lightnin' was like an emissary from a higher plane. It's like he was made of confidence and talent in equal measure.
Sweet pickup, congrats. I’m not the only one with “vintage DeArmond” as a saved search on flea bay
Does using nickel wounds compensate for the louder plain strings?
I was thinking of using some hi-output double blade SC-sized humbuckers(No hum and good high roll-off!) but since they're blade(poles) I can't compensate much height wise.
Yes they do compared to Phosphor Bronze.
I've scored some good one's on there. This one came into a local shop on a crappy old Japanese 12 string. I saw it when it first came in and waited for them to clean it up and put a new wire on it ( almost always needed). I had the box in stock from one i used to have that i sold with a guitar, won't be doing that anymore!
Installed! This baby runs hot, sounds so good.
A few of them, got like 4 or 5 more i think.
