Something that popped up in another thread got me thinking. We all know the iconic players of certain models-- Setzer with his 6120, George with the Tenny, Brian Jones with a 6118, Neil Young with his White Falcon and 6120, Billy Zoom with his Sparkle Jet, etc.

But who are the players who you'd never expect to use Gretsch, but do so on a regular basis? Like PJ Harvey with her Broadkaster, or Tim Armstrong with his Country Club? Or, like Martin Gore, bonus points if they're playing in non-traditionally "Gretsch" genres.

I know we always Think of Joe Strummer with his Tele but he played this Falcon for a few shows in 1977 allegedly bought from Johnny Thunders for peanuts so Thunders could go & score...

Yeah, I know that story, same with Lou, but I think that's because we're all on the same wavelength, you, Caleb, and I.

I always thought Strummer got the Falcon while he was in the 101ers though.

Theatre of Hate were really using a distinctly Gretsch sound in a non Gretsch context. D88D233E-5D9B-4E27-960C-BCEEDC5FA076.jpeg
I think they did a lot to capitalise on the voice of the gretsch hollowbody.

There's a name I haven't heard for decades. I only vaguely remember "Do You Believe in the West World" from some long gone punk rock compilation in the 90s. (Also had a great version of the Ruts' "In A Rut" that I wish I could find again, because it was way better than the album mix.)

Don’t know about “on a regular base” but I’ve seen some pics of unlikely Gretsch hollow body owners like Steve Vai, John Norum, Adrian Vandenberg, and George Lynch.

on second thought. Not sure about Steve Vai. I thought I saw one in a recent pic of his guitar vault, might have been an Ibby.
