    I had a JC-77 in the 80's.
You buy this amp for its clean sound. Will also be a good acoustic amp when I decide what pup to put on my Alvarez.
Built around 1987 and still sounds great.
2x25 watt amps into 2x8 Speakers.
Very little pot noise and no hum or hiss so I wont be doing the interior clean/inspection that I had planned.
$205 so it was cheap as chips.
Previous owner was a drummer who was thining his amp herd. Good karma I think.
The Chorus is wonderful, Reverb OK but my Neunaber wins and distortion will stay in the off position.
Super for pedals. does not color the sound.

I was really close to grabbing one of these that I ran into a few months ago. Seems like it would be a really awesome clean platform but unfortunately the one I ran into had some significantly flakiness going on w/ the switching especially for the price they were wanting.

Sounds like you got a great deal to me, Congrats!

The JCs look as if they were built to stand a nuclear war.

The angle iron frame holds up, but the wood is fragile.

What is it made out of, MDF, chipwood?

Something like MDF. The ones I've come across were used by high school and uni jazz bands and weren't well treated. Myself, I don't care for the industrial angle iron look. Roland JCs sound great, tho, if you're into clean. That chorus is unbeatable, too.

Hmm, not too bad, but not exactly featherweight either.

Congrats on the amp @Freshy . When it comes to " green board " amps , Roland is the way to go ... it's what they do . Love my JC-40

Not a fan of the look, love SS clean and absolutely detest Chorus(although this is one of the better ones out there).

Rolands JC120s are the defacto standard in backlines across the island. Most bring a Line 6 or Boss GT to get their dirt sounds but they all sound like horribly thin and buzzy Mesa Rectumfryers to me. I need to find out which dirt pedals would work with a JC.

There's no requirement for someone to like chorus. It has it's moments. Variety is the spice of life. That's why there are more than one type of guitar (or anything else). That's as it should be.

Kids are hard on things. Most school gear takes a beating. No one treats communal gear as well as they would treat their own stuff. (Ever drive a company truck?) Students should be used as stress test groups for most gear. If it can handle a year of a HS jazz band, it'll last forever.
