Well I was content with what I had already but then decided I needed a guitar to be used mainly as a slider.
All my others have very low action and are too good for dedicated slide use.

I'll leave this new one in various slide tunings and maybe up the action some.
But it would also get some standard non slide use.

I wanted humbuckers, light weight, easy high fret access and good for rock either slide or normal use.
Have always loved SGs and missed the SG Deluxe I sold 2 yrs ago.

Not wanting to pay for a Gibson I looked at various SG copies from Artist and Harley Benton but found I couldn't find one to test out, or even to buy in Australia. Not gonna buy any guitar I can't test out 1st.

2nd behind a real Gibson is the new 2020 Epiphone "inspired by gibson" range that have a bunch of upgrades from previous Epi models like CTS pots, Graph tech nut and better looks.

My local guitar store had this new Epi SG 61 Standard for $US450.
Tested out great, all the reviews were excellent so I paid a bit more than planned.
But now I have a great SG again.

Sounds and looks great and....... it doesn't have any neck dive - balances perfect as is.
the finish job, frets, everything is perfect - better than most Gibsons the past 10 yrs.
The Epi Pro Buckers are good vintage style mid output humbucker pups :D

    Congrats man, looks great!

The recent Epi HBs have seemed to sound a lot better to me in the last couple/few years.

    Rock (&/or slide) on!

Nice! Looks to be a pretty decent instrument. We'll be hearing it in a while, right?

Thanks Sid - yeah the new Pro Bucker pups are plenty good enuf for a slider imo.
Can upgrade later to Seymour Duncans if I want but the stock one's will do fine for a while :D

Epi pickups can be kinda hit- or- miss sometimes, but every once in a while, they get 'em right. I love the Probuckers and coil- splitters in my Genesis. I've heard their P90s in the ES339 are good too, but I haven't picked one up yet. That's a beautiful SG, too, BTW.

Epiphone is great stuff. I bought a G400 real cheap years ago and since then I have made it not so cheap anymore. The pups were not bright so Giby 57's and new wiring.

Congrats, Waxman! That is a fine looking SG. I had an Epiphone SG-400 years ago, and I was very happy with it for quite a while.

Congrats, Waxman! That is a fine looking SG. I had an Epiphone SG-400 years ago, and I was very happy with it for quite a while (it was part of a gear trade for my Taylor 710ce).

    Edit: Well that was different.
