OK, picked this up because...I had to. It plays amazing and looks great and sounds oh so good.

But what is it exactly, spec-wise? It's a 6118 JR, with a Made in Japan sticker on the back of where the neck meets the body, so...an Anniversary Jr.

    Serial number 015118JR-18

Is the rolling bridge original? Amazingly, the plastic is still on the pickguard and truss rod cover. Actually, the whole thing looks almost new.

Pics in the next post! What kind of pickups? Love this thing.

    Congrats. Looks great!

2001 Annie JR. The preFMIC ones had bound necks which is nice. Ceramic Filtertron pickups, a little bit raunchier than current HS Filtertrons but if you like to rock out, they sound great.

I don't know if the Space Control bridge is original. Most preFMIC Gretschs had a really crappy roller bridge but the Space Control is stock on current models.

Mine is a 2009 but the original bridge was a Space Control like yours.

The Anni has to be the best bang for the buck of all the pro lines. I love them so. They seem to be so “fun” to play. Lightweight, resonant and loud.
    Congrats

My favourite Gretsch colour combination. The model continued into the Fender era if memory serves. I bought a 6122 Country Classic Junior Double Cut around early 2003. There was also a Bigsby-equipped 6118Jr in the catalogue at the time, and I think a 6120Jr?

About the pickups--they didn't sound raunchy in-store through a DRRI, in fact quite the opposite. Seemed lower output and very musical, I'm very pleased with them no matter their construction. When I change strings I'll pull them and look at the bottom.

    I have a B11 arriving today.

Will I be able to drop that on, or will I need to drill new holes near the strap button? Part of me thinks Gretsch, with so many Bigsbys, would have a quick-swappable tailpiece design to make things easier at the factory.

They are only grittier compared to HS Filtertrons but still have that Gretsch sound. They dirty up in a different way than HS Filtertrons but both sound distinctively great.

Does anyone know if a Bigsby B11 is a drop-in, or will I need to drill new holes near the strap pin?

You will need to drill. No biggie though, the stock tailpiece will cover them up if you put it back (nobody ever will).

    Congratulations, great and beautiful guitar.
And also for the Bigsby mod. Was just thinking something's missing when looking at your initial pics.

Although I generally do not like the size of Gretsch Juniors I think that you just bought a very enjoyable guitar. Congrats, friend.
