Got strings on it! I haven't had time to wire it up yet so I don't know how it sounds. I realized I need the 'deep-dish' toggle switch nut so I had to order one. I do have a pick guard coming in also. Hope to find time to set it up later today.

I like speed knobs and I thought these were a good compromise as I'm not a huge fan of the gold top hat type that o with this model.

The plain top looks very appealing to me.
It makes this guitar more "working-class" in a positive way. Always thought that the spectacular figured tops look a bit like fine furniture. I would always be too careful with a guitar like that just to avoid dings and dongs. As I know myself a highly figured Les Paul would end as a wallhanger in my house and not onstage.

I remember an interview with Ted McCarty saying the guitars with figure on the tops wouldn't sell very well.

Something weird... when I put the strings on I did 'best guess' for bridge height and didn't touch the preset bridge saddle positions.
I went to set it up and it needed nothing. Action is great and almost buzz free (a little doesn't bother me), intonation is within a cent or two.

Great looking axe! You mentioned that the husk weight was 7.5 lbs. What the weight with all the parts back on?

Funny, after comparing that photo with my cherry burst Standard, I’m thinking about removing the pickguard.

Including a thick leather strap, right at 10 :/

I may well do that too, but I want to start off with everything as new :)

10lbs is just right for a Paul imo, they rarely are lighter and plenty are much heavier, 13 pounders are pretty common.

So I’m calling it done even though there’s something odd going on with the tone pots. I never use them anyway.

Sure looks good. If it plays like it looks, it must be a great guitar.

Great, congrats man. Someday I'll get another real LP but for now I'll have to settle for a good copy.
