Hey everyone. i'm new here with a 1972 vintage Gretsch guitar. Just bought it a week ago. My dream guitar. I don't have an official certificate of authenticity with my guitar. I wrote to Gretsch trying to have one. Do Gretsch give this kind of help? My serial is 112217 so it was made in november of 1972.

Cheers and salut in french! Olive

    Welcome... nice Gent!

Don't expect anything from Gretsch (or Fender as it were) related to your guitar. Different company entirely, with zero connection to the vintage Gretsch models.

Thank you all for the welcomes. I do not understand this company. I think there is money to be made just to keep a story book and deliver some information about these rare and beautiful guitars. All I ask is for some kind of paper from them to certify that this is an authentic Gretsch guitar, nothing complicated. I'll keep you inform of the discussions with Gretsch.

    Howdy! Welcome aboard!

Your guitar is gorgeous! Looking for paperwork that came with it 45 years ago may not be likely to happen. I've bought brand new Gretsches and didn't get paperwork with them. It's not all that necessary to me. It still sounds like a Gretsch.

I'm curious why you think anyone would doubt that your guitar is an authentic '72 Gretsch? They haven't reissued this model year, so there's really no debating what it is.

The papers will be just for me and nobody else. Any main modern piece of art have this kind of paper and I consider my guitar as a piece of art. Isn't it?

Welcome to Gretsch-Talk Olive, and best of luck on your communications with Gretsch. My guess is that Gretsch will be very cautious about certifying the guitar with a certificate of authenticity, just for legal reasons. Unfortunately, there are too many unscrupulous people out there that would try to take advantage of Gretsch.
