Matthew Ashman. Gretsch icon from Bow Wow Wow and Adam and the Ants.

Following the split of Bow Wow Wow, he formed a band in 1983 called Chiefs of Relief with Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols. He chucked in his previous Apache/Trustafarian/Ragamuffin image and went all leather and biker boots. And, more interestingly, swapped his White Falcon for a '78 Les Paul Prodeluxe.

Sadly, Matt passed away in 1995, aged 35, from complications related to his diabetes.

The Les Paul passed hands a couple of times, and ended up in the possession of the other guitarist in the band I play in. It's just about the coolest guitar I've ever seen, like really properly Brando cool, and it rocks like a total mutha. I've always absolutely coveted it, and now......

    ....IT'S MIIIIINE!!

It's heavier than any guitar I've ever played. It's heavy. So very heavy.

    But it's glorious.

Congrats on both heavy guitars. (The heaviest I've ever owned were my first Astro Jet and my first Committee, especially the AJ. A bass strap didn't provide any relief to my aching neck and shoulders.)

That's a beautiful Les Paul -- bet it sounds and plays as good as it looks. I had an early '70s LP Deluxe that weighed in at over 9lbs -- and my current LP, a 1992 Special, is 9.6 lbs. No wonder my left shoulder is playing up.

Well, a straight-back chair, with crossed legs may help.

And I've suffered far too long with the misery and frustration of relying on the strap.

Lately I've been able to put in about an hour at a time without any hassle.

    Good luck.

That looks amazing. My Gibson LP looks a bit like it minus the Bigs. Congrats...again!
