    Perhaps remove the hardware and carefully spray it with clear lacquer. Note spray can lacquer - NOT paint brushed. My father (a very good semi-pro luthier) used to do it; the process worked well and lasted for years n' years.

    Congrats to joining a very fine forum, and most importantly . . Congrats on the beautiful, new Gretsch.

    Thanks for the recommendation although I suspect I'll let it age - While I don't like relics, I have no problem with a guitar honestly showing wear. And in time there will be scratches and dents too.

    I kind of think it's part of a guitar's story...
