I recently picked up this old Gretsch New Yorker Tenor banjo. It is tuned in CDGA and sounds amazing. The neck is straight as a board. I am thinking that it was a closet queen because it is in near mint condition except the tuners have been replaced. Would anyone on here know how to find out when it was made? I am guessing the 1950s. Anyway I thought I’d share it on here. 2041E6EA-928E-4D25-9BFE-4C11238089CA.jpeg

Very cool. I think 50's is a good guess.

    Very cool, congrays!
I can't play a banjo unless it has the 5th string..

I was bassist in an originals kinda alt country band where the guitarist used a 4 string with that tuning quite a bit. Got some good tones out of it. Plectrum is a wholly different banjo sound than 5 str.

The serial number is stamped into the dowel rod that spans the rim, visible when you take the back off. This version of the Gretsch New Yorker banjo was made from the late 40's into the 50s. If you share the serial number I can narrow that down further for you.
