I was playing guitar at a mate Andy's house a week or so ago with my Gretsch Corvette and he pulled out an old Wem amp from under the stairs.

It sounded awesome. Super clean but with a spanky boxy aggressiveness... it really jelled with the hi-lotron in the Corvet. It reminded me of 3 hours past midnight by Johnny guitar Watson.

I couldn't believe it was a solid-state amp! I had to have one.

I found one for sale that was in "good" condition for under £200. It defiantly needs a service, but I'm happy with it.

Don't tell anybody, but I once had a late '60s Gretsch solid state amp and I really like the sounds I got from it. One of these, I think:

But if anybody asks you, tell them I'm 100% a tube guy who thinks solid state is for chumps.

Well that one had Magic Echo, so it's understandable you could have been swayed.

What on earth is Magic echo? All I know is I want it.

"Magic Echo" is an echo effect that magically sounds exactly like a tremolo effect. In other words, it's tremolo.
