My first Gretsch.

Discussion in 'New Member Intros' started by dutchboypete, Sep 6, 2017.

  1. Love at first play. I recently purchased my first Gretsch - a 1968 Streamliner. Where ya been all my life?
I have been playing guitar/bass for 50 years now and never had my hands on a Gretsch anything. I pretty well Travis pick everything and love the way the guitar vibrates in my hands. The chimey pickups relay the music perfectly.
The guitar is fairly original except the tuners and the nut. The binding is badly checked and the case in tatters. But over all, tons of mojo.
Just wondering if any one knows; What type of tuners would have been on a 1968 Streamliner?
Also, the electronics are whisper quiet but I was wondering why the kill switch has 3 positions. One is on and the other two drop the volume by about 90%.

Welcome to GT sir,and congrats on the new geet!

Tuners would be Grover StaTite, but some have Van Ghents.

Welcome! Glad you love your first Gretsch. I recently bought one (and have another on the way) after years of Les Pauls and must say I am inspired.
Congrats on you Travis picking ability. I am working on mine, though it's going slowly.
I's sure folks will chime in with answers to your questions.

    Welcome aboard!

Better late than never. The only reason for a three position kill switch is likely that they were what was in stock and the same as the pickup selector and mud switches.
