Any suggestions for upgrading the tuning machines? I really dont want to drill holes, so I'd prefer a direct drop in option.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions

I dropped in some Grovers, I forget the model number. I only did this mod because I had some nice ivory-like buttons I wanted to use. What's wrong with the stock tuners? My Grovers did nothing better, but made the headstock heavier. The stock tuners were solid once I tightened the mounting nut...

I put in some Grover locking tuners, I think they made a big difference. Dropped right in, no drilling.

I used Hipshot locking tuners - needed to use a plate which was a direct fit into the existing holes

Which locking grovers do you all use and recommend: original, mini, roto grip, mini roto-grip, tip?

Grover 502C Roto-Grip. About 30 minutes to change the strings and replace the tuners. Easy peasy.

If you’re going to change them out, get locking tuners. I really like mine. Good brand suggestions above.

I have a G2655 and also did not like the stock tuners. I replaced them with stair step art deco tuners made by Wilkinson. I've used Wilkinson tuners on about 10 other projects and have been very impressed with their performance and reliability. Incidentally, they are a direct replacement for the stock Gretsch tuners with no drilling or mods required.

Update: I have received and installed a new set of wilkinson 19:1 Imperial tuners. Installation was drop in easy. No issues at all. I love the art decco look and it was a snap tuning. more news to follow as I play a bit. I guess a pic is in order to make this thread forum official! LOL
