Last night I jammed...with a Ukulele group!

A friends mom is a member of a group that meets two times a month, they are all ukulele players. I went and played with them last night, it was interesting to say the least. There is another gal who plays guitar too, so I wasn't the only one. It was nice to get to play with other people and it was an excellent test of my sight reading skills since I wasn't familiar with most of the music. The hardest part was figuring out a good strum pattern so I didn't sound out of place!

The other plus from it was the other guitarist has been looking for someone to play with, and it turns out she's a big fan of 90's music too, so we are going to try and get together to work on some stuff. She has played some open mic nights and suggested maybe we could try one at some point. If we ever get one around here again, the place that did it just closed recently. :(

Open mic is how we started out before we started gigging. We still enjoy doing it just because it is so casual and you get the opportunity to meet so many local musicians.

Hope you get that opportunity Flo....and until then, keep jammin' with your new friend. Your playing will improve greatly and new doors will open. Have fun and best of luck finding a new open mic venue

I played my Fender acoustic. Which was interesting since I hadn't played it for a while! It went well though.

That's Awesome. jamin is jamin and somthing good always comes out of it. Hope you find a good open mic night soon. If I was out your way I would be happy to jam with you. The 90's were almost the last honest musical time periods.

Love the Ukes! I wish they'd do a proper US tour. The only time they came here they hit only NYC & Erie, PA (?!!!)

    One of my favorites:

Another great uke player is the amazing Jake Shimabukuro. My son and I saw him in concert a few years ago. Pretty damn good.

I went through a brief infatuation with the ukulele. I did own a blue Gretsch ukulele for a little while. Probably no surprise there.
