I was lucky enough to see this in a local classified as soon as it was posted. My first vintage Gretsch and I am very pleased with the purchase.

I don't have much history of the guitar. The seller's late husband inherited from the guitar player in his band when he passed away years ago. As far as I can tell, it has sat in its original case for years. Generally, it appears to be in good shape, with many original parts (and some replacement screws).

While the pickups don't appear to be original, it does look like they are not "newer" replacements. I am far from an expert and would appreciate any insights or questions about the guitar. IMG_3322.jpg

Congrats on the new old guitar. I like the white Dynas. Also, welcome to Gretsch Talk!

Yeah, the white DeArmonds came from an early '60s Guild. Odd that somebody would have gone to the effort of switching out black DeArmonds for white ones. I guess they just preferred the look. Either way, you're getting the right sound and can always pick up some vintage black ones at some point. Otherwise, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. Neck set looks good.

  7. Uh, . . . a Classic is right . . . worth maybe $8 grand ?

I was only looking up that “G” tailpiece design and a 1957 Firebird had it as well . . .
easily my favorite of the Gretsch designs of a hardtail . . .

. . . and then I saw and had a case of “sticker shock” as it was goin’ fór $8,595. usd.
Serial number accuracy and other details are gonna help your value of course,
    but really nice find !

a 2016-built Relic 1955 was out of stock at reverb at $5,095. usd -

jus’ sayin’ try to get as much info - the old band name ? - as possible while you can -
and btw, are the pickups the trademark sound for this beauty of an investment ?

My thought exactly, not sure I would have gone through the trouble to change the pickups. I guess everyone has personal preferences!

I didn't think to ask the band's name ... wish I would have!

To my ear, the pickups sound like a Jet should. If I understand correctly, the only difference vs the original dynasonics is color and shape of the surround.[/QUOTE]

That might be a bit optimistic a value on this guitar. If it had its original pickups it's probably closer to $6k (retail)... $4k (street value).

    Welcome to Gretschville! Cool guitar.
The pickups don’t match in colour(Probably an assembled set or replacement) but should pose no problem.
