    DSCF0009[1].JPG Hello
I have just got a GT5420t, it is my first Gretsch .
I thought as I am 65 I better do it before I kick the bucket ;)
I was uncertain because they are very expensive here in England.
But I have always liked the tone so I took the plunge. I now have to learn to play it properly :).
I am running it with a THR10. is there a better practice amp I could use or is this capable. I am still trying to get the right sound with all settings available

Congratulations on your new Gretsch. 5420's are fine guitars. If you like the sound with the Yamaha amp stay with it and have fun. If you're looking for something else I'd suggest taking a look at a Vox AC10.

    Welcome to Gretsch-Talk leskess!

That's a nice looking 5420, and I agree that they are fine guitars because I have one, too.

Nice Gretsch! May you play it in good health!
I think the THR 10 is a great amp to have, and as you improve and want something bigger, you'll still get plenty of use from your THR10. I have one and I use it to play stuff form my iPhone, I use it for low volume practice, and I sometimes take it when I travel to use as a iPhone speaker and to practice guitar if I bring one along (I have a beater strat that's perfect for travel). Great piece of kit I dig mine.

Welcome to Gretsch-talk from another old guy who decided to try to learn to play some guitar after I retired.

Just got my first one too, also a 5420 (lefty). It plays easy and sounds great but I never had an electric guitar this BIG. It’s funny having to reach so far to tweak the tone knob.

That depends on your budget and the genres you play. And congrats on the G5420.

If you have an iPad, I would recommend BIAS FX and a good interface like an iRig Pro ... that's what I use for jamming at home nowadays, though I also have a Blackstar HT5R.

    Howdy! Welcome aboard!

Nice first Gretsch, and your THR10 is a great little practice amp. It has a lot of uses and features. When you grow into something bigger, a 5-10 watt tube amp is where I'd suggest to go. As there are many choices available, due your diligence and Caveat Emptor. Most of all, have fun!
