I was looking for a recent thread about Julian Lage, but I guess I was hallucinating. (Happens as you age. )

From a recent article in Vintage Guitar:

really cool! the grit in the voice of the guitar is a nice balance to the sweetness of the melody

That's some of the best muzak I've ever heard. Totally serious and kidding.

I enjoyed that just as much as the original song. It's cool to know the background info behind a song.

I‘m a big fan of Julian. That is a 53 jet with a new neck (repaired by Gretsch in 1958).

Totally beautiful. I love the simplicity yet depth to this guy’s playing.

    He needs a Brain.

I have checked out JL over the last few years, but for some reason, when I went to preview his albums, I never was enticed to buy one. Don't know why, he just never "spoke to me", I guess. This new album might be the game changer for me.

(and I love this kind of stuff: I am a huge fan of Jim Campilongo, Bill Frisell, Duke Levine, Kenny Burrel, Johnny Smith.....)

I bet this is his Nachocaster, not the Jet.

Yes, he said that in the interview. The video above, "Crying" is the Jet again.

I prefer him playing the Telecaster. He‘s so dynamic and so special, really inspiring.
    And again if you missed:

Nice twangy tone in a not-twangy mood. A good idea.

As mentioned in the other Julian Lage thread ;)- he jammed with Santana at the age of eight! And by the way, he‘s a very nice and sympathetic guy!

It always strikes me how carefully his tone is crafted. It sounds to my ears like Julian sculpts his EQ to emphasize a few key peaks and attenuates a lot of unwanted high and low end information. Makes me wonder what he has under the hood on those guitars?
I generally prefer the tone he got with his Champ and Telecaster but that Jet sounds perfect on “Crying”.
The guitar on that is really reminiscent of Manuel Galban’s sound on Mambo Sinuendo.
