Never going back again! Tweed amps all up for sale kinda turned! This Princeton Reverb handwired project has totally flipped the way I think about Blackface amps. I thought they were all about glassy shimmer and brittle highs, but this one growls like a junkyard dog. With a T-Armond on the bridge, a hair of 'verb and the bass around 8, this thing is proper neighbour pleasing, enough to get them banging on the wall in appreciation. In all seriousness, I can see why the Princeton Reverb has been a favourite for such a long time. This one, with the Stokes mod, over-rated transformers and 12" speaker might be quite a way from a standard PR, and knocks spots off the re-issue I tried. The build was a little more difficult than anything I've tried to date, but really it's only just a few more wires and components. Go slow, gt the job done right. Totally Red Oktober silent on tickover, a bit of normal tube hiss when cranked, it looks like the oversized metal film resistors have done the job right. I also used a star ground, and earthed all the pots to one place. I are a very happy bunny right now.
