I have never ice fished but I have camped out in the dead of winter, not a cabin just a simple tent. It’s about getting away and worrying about nothing in general. Enjoy the warm fire, cook some food, relax and chat with friends if they are with you.

Some of the Fishing rigs are fancier than my house.

Back on topic - Blizzard warning to the west of me, Winter storm warnings to the east of me. And here? Winter weather advisory??

I just drove back from Savage today. Are you in the cities or over by Willmar or Montevideo?

Willmar. This is the first real winter weather we've had in years!

Yep, I have shops in Montevideo and St Cloud and it seems when there was bad weather it was the days I had to drive to St Cloud

As Jeff Foxworthy said to Minnesotans who invited him to go out ice fishing, "And you think we're stupid in the South!"

I used to spend my fall hunting pheasant in Madison. Miss it.

I'm boiling my butt off here. How about we average out our air masses and then it'll be a perfect temperature.

We're looking at a 40F degree temperature drop tonight.

    It never ends.

edit: Tornado warnings south of me at 1PM EST. Crazy.

Our drop is only a minor 35 degrees. And it's been hovering around 30 during the day so each day we get a nice coating of freezing rain on everything, and every night it all freezes solid.

3D747963-A6CD-42A5-9B9E-029DDA271549.jpeg Blizzard, schools closed today, nice amount of blowing snow, below zero again back into double digit negatives by tomorrow. Visibility is what you would expect, look out a window and see white. Phones are great for cutting through the snow but it’s blowong so hard even my phone pic catches the nastiness outside.

We're only in a wind chill advisory, but the county is pulling all plows in 50 minutes.

    N0.....................o!

Most unreal ever! Sort of like a mash of Oklahoma City and Winnipeg. I can deal with the cold, but the winter rain just drives me nuts.

When I moved here, I thought I escaped Oklahoma. Guess not.

Wait til it's 90 out with a dewpoint of 83 with bugs. I'll take the cold myself, I've got clothes for that.

You can always put more clothes on, there's a limit to what you can take off!

My dad was born in Montevideo in 1906. He said when he was a kid there were days so cold he wasn’t allowed outside because his lungs might freeze. Family moved to Oregon in 1911, and never went back.

My father lived through the Armistice Day Blizzard in 1940. He said they had to string a rope between the house and barn to make it safely. It was in the 60s in the afternoon and dropped into the teens by nightfall. Hunters were trapped outside, often in shirt sleeves or light jackets.

    Per Wikipedia:

Snowfalls of up to 27 inches (69 cm), winds of 50 to 80 mph (80–130 km/h), 20-foot (6.1 m) snow drifts, and 50-degree Fahrenheit (28 °C) temperature drops were common over parts of the states of Nebraska, South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Survivors describe the cold as so severe that it was difficult to breathe, with the air so moisture laden it was thick like syrup and that the cold seared the survivors lungs like a red-hot blade. A total of 145 deaths were blamed on the storm.
