My aluminum Compton bridge arrived today. Thanks Pops! :)

Installation was a breeze. With intonation set on the two E strings, a quick check revealed that intonation for the other four strings were either very close or right on the money.

The action is set almost exactly where it was with the stock bridge. Some of you may recall that my B string would fret-out when bent at the 19th fret. While trying to remedy that problem with the stock bridge by continually raising the action, the strings became too far off the fingerboard for playing. I think the saddle under the B string was cut wrong or something. I could have swapped it with a different saddle, but decided to wait until my Compton bridge arrived.

Well low and behold, the B string fret-out issue has been resolved by using the Compton bridge, and as noted above, without raising the action. :)

I won't be able to give you a full tone report for a day or two, but after a quick plug in and tune up it sounds great.

    Cheers!
    Jake

Jake: It is looking great and thanks for the positive feedback. Nice job you did there and a real pretty guitar. I do not see even a spec of dust on it.

    LOL! :D

No, you're not going crazy. I took that picture before I tuned up for the first time and set the intonation. I caught it ... and so did you!

I posted two different pics to avoid sending other folks to the funny farm prematurely ;)

    Cheers!

I guess I need one too!

What were the benefits of the different materials again?

I don't remember Squewy, but I think Pop's had a description in one of his posts.

They may all be so good sounding that it could come down to which material color looks best with the guitar. They're so affordable swapping out for different subtleties and looks is an easy option.

The aluminum sounds great, the brass sounds even greater, that's all I know. :)

I just finished playing my 5120 w/aluminum Compton for about an hour. The tone sounds brighter. It is not overly so. The chime and twang are there and brighter than the stock bridge.

The guitar stays in tune beautifully while working the Bigsby. Sounds fantastic on those classic surf songs :D

I may try some of the other Compton bridge materials later, but for I need to give my wallet a little rest. :)
