went to guitar street in Ochanimizu in Tokyo today. Guitar Planet was ridiculous, particularly the Gretsch floor. Prettiest girl at the ball was a vintage 1959 6120 going for a cool $25k.

Sadly though....no deals to be found at all, with prices for electromatics being higher here than back home. But still....so much pretty.

Yeah, Japan's a pricey place for about everything in my experience.
Great gyoza and namazake though! :)

Yup. I've stumbled across a few amazing music stores in Tokyo. There was one that had like, 9 floors because the square footage of the main floor was so small, they had to build up. And they had a Gretsch floor too. This was back in the mid 00s. They had a whole bunch of White Falcons and Peguins and a few Billy Bo Penguin/Falcons. The Ishibashi music stores are a great chain too. LOTS of guitars just jammed together.

All the guitar stores I visited in Japan had crazy high prices.

I've been to Dave's Guitar and Cream City, which are pretty close to heaven.

(For those in the Midwest, Dave's has opened up in Madison and Milwaukee now, not just La Crosse.)

There were some ok prices on Japanese made guitars, but anything I could get at home was at least the same price, and usually more.

For example, a 5435 was going for over $700 Canadian.

Around 1980 I bought a mint Rick 12 string in Minnesota for $400. T0o narrow at the nut. My step sister was a stewardess on the Minneapolis to Tokyo flight. She sold it in Tokyo for $700.
