    A cheap resonator, lol.

I already have a fret saw, pickup wire, and more woodworking equipment than most people have and this looks fun.

That's just one more step from a cigar box guitar. Represent your home state. Enjoy!

Nice idea. Can't wait to see the finish product. Are you going down to the DMV to play it ? Sorry I had to ask.

That’s a cool idea. It’d be neat to do with an older vintage plate too.

Be great for playing light metal. Or songs with licentious lyrics.

Highway Patrol: Do you know why I have pulled you over today?
    Me: No?
Highway Patrol: Where is your licence plate?
Me: Oh that, I made a guitar out of it...
Highway Patrol: Oh ok - you can go then

    :)

Funny you should say that, I don't know that I have any Georgia license plates sitting around other than some of the small motorcycle ones.

    So it's gonna be a license-plate ukulele?

I think that New York State license plates have better tone than Rhode Island. A little more raw and punk, which goes well with p90s. Although, for that classic single coil Strat sound, I think Washington State plates would bring the best tone, IMHO. If you're looking for a more raw, punchy single coil sound, I'd highly recommend Tennessee plates. No comparison really.

If I used an Arizona plate it would only do Western songs.

    LOL, good call.

I realized somewhere I have a Georgia car plate but as I recall it's the 'new' style that only has the letters/numbers printed on it and not stamped. That would simplify attaching the bridge but I think stamped plates would just look better.

I had a 1934 license plate I found in an ancient trash pile in my woods (neighbor did something stupid with his yard, runoff exposed the pile) but unfortunately once exposed to air it disintegrated in a couple weeks. The cool thing is my subdivision used to be Samples family farm property, as in BR549 Junior Samples, so it's very likely it was a plate from his family, lol.

The state prisons haven't made raised letter & number plates in years. We don't get new ones every year anymore either---only new stickers. End of an era.

Of course, you could go the Seasick Steve route. His buddy made him a guitar out of a couple of Morris Minor hubcaps. I've seen one made from a shovel, too. You could always go the traditional route and use a cigar box or tin can. Diddly bos have a long heritage.

Oh, there are all sorts of routes I can go. I have a buddy that makes a good bit of side money recycling scrap and he's on the lookout for things to make something like this happen someday. And I'm not even a fan of steampunk stuff.
