I understand your happiness and grief at the same time. Obviously you did a great job raising her, some children don't want to have anything to do with their parents, so this IS a blessing.
When my daughter got married it was both the happiest and saddest day of my life. 3 years later, I realize that she is really happy, and I didn't lose a daughter, but I gained a great son. God bless their marriage.

Done. wow! time to relax. Folks are coming back to the house, we will play guitars some more. Bride and groom are off.

like the old softie that I have become, I gave the last toast and choked up and had to pause for a moment. I made all her girl friends cry.

What are the odds? I now have two son in laws, both are named Dan.

    Thanks for the nice comments

It's a Rite of Passage. Keep a stiff upper lip.
Once they're in junior high all control is out of your hands. If she survives the penguins, she'll be all right.

    Very true

My nerves were really not about me. My job was easy, walk her down the isle, make a toast, write a big check. I was nervous for her, wanting everything to go perfect for her. It did.

And....this was the second daughter I have had the privilege of watching get married.

Congratulations! I hope you had a great day. As you say, your job was easy, but being asked to do it is what counts.

Been there myself with 2 daughters. Lots of emotion on the big day. They grow up so fast... and I'm always reminded of the song "Turnaround" by The Brothers Four

Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby my own
    Turn around and you're two
    Turn around and you're four
Turn around and you're a young girl
    Going out of the door

    Turn around
    Turn around
Turn around and you're a young girl
    Going out of the door

Where are you going my little one, little one
Little drendils and petticoats, where are you now
    Turn around and you're tiny
    Turn around and you're grown
Turn around and you're a young wife
    With babes of your own

    Turn around
    Turn around
Turn around and you're a young wife
    With babes of your own

Where are you going my little one, little one
Where are you going my baby my own

Nice. Personally...I never made it to the end of either of my Father of the Bride speeches.
