I only have one Gretsch but it is the last guitar I would ever part with. It is a 1968 Blackhawk. Definitely players grade with a few replaced parts but it has the original pickups and wiring and original amazing tone. I have gone through these forums to learn more about it in the past and thought I would join the forum.

I have had it a couple years now. It has a good amount of binding rot. There are a couple good places in town I could take to be rebound. However, I like it as is and until it becomes an issue of it not playing well or damaging the wood because of a lack of binding I will wait.

Welcome evanjppro, from a little north of you. Nice guitar, I can see why you wouldn't want to part with it! Lots of Gretsch experience here to help with any questions you may have - and lots of folks willing to share. Enjoy your stay!

Thanks! I guess my only question is with the binding rot. The binding is definitely not in great condition but does not seem to have worsened in the few years I have had it (2016 i believe). Is there a way to slow down the rot or stabilize it so it doesnt get worse?

I have a Gent from 1960 that has no binding issues at all, so I haven't really had to look into it. Sorry I don't have any answers, but I'm pretty sure someone will be along shortly to help out.

    Welcome to Gretsch-Talk Evan!

I can't give you any thoughts on the binding rot, because I'm relatively new to Gretsch guitars, and so my thoughts are mainly how fortunate I was to find out just how great Gretsch guitars really are, and how awesome the folks here have been. That last part is why I am sure you'll get some good guidance on your binding rot. There are some very knowledgeable people hear when it comes to vintage Gretsch guitars, and they are more than happy to help anyone.

Welcome! I’m in Portland too. We should get together and compare Gretsches. I’d like to see yours and show off mine. I’m on Mt. Tabor. Are you close to that?

You probably know about 12th Fret, but if not, I would recommend taking your ax into John. Very knowledgeable guys there.
