    Hi guys,

I spent a bit of time here yesterday looking for the best way to clean and condition an ebony fretboard.

Found various answers but no clear winner so went ahead today and changed my strings and bridge on my fairly new black falcon and cleaned the fretboard (it's not dirty really) with a small amount of lemon oil from a guitar shop and then Dunlop 02 deep conditioner, again not that much, before wiping off.

After tuning up the fretboard feels tacky and dry, (get a little stuck when bending) and considerably worse than what it was before.

What do people use to lubricate the fretboard so it's smooth playing experience?? I have walnut oil and linseed oil (flaxseed) here but I'll buy whatever works.

Saw a product called Fret Doctor that looks ok.

Recommendations welcome, hoping that this is a quick fix!

Have an Ebony board on my 355. For over 25 years have used lemon oil on it. Works great.

F One for me. No tackiness, odor, and easy to use. About $9

But I’ve also seen some great looking ebony boards on here from players using other stuff.

Thanks Merc. Unless a few others suggest something else, I'll get a bottle of this.

I just recently bought their Frine total fretboard kit for my 6119 and was impressed. The board was pretty dingy and the frets were a bit crusty and a lovely shade of green in places and the kit worked a charm on cleaning both.

I use nothing on my 6120. Ebony, being so dense, really doesn't need any treatment apart from a wipe down after playing. If it gets really grubby an old credit card does the job of scraping gunk off, and a little lemon oil to clean it afterwards is all you need.

Yes, it was much better with NOTHING. In any case the Dunlop 02 is going in the bin and I'll have to apply something to get it back to normal.

I really like Hydrate from Planet Waves. The F-One stuff seemed to leave some sticky residue after a few weeks even though I wiped off after application.

while I despise the use of "axe" for a guitar, I must say this stuff is what I've used for years besides wiping the strings w WD-40

Oh well, too late now. Bought including shipping to Hong Kong. If F-One oil doesn't work then I'll look elsewhere. Should be OK though, a few here like it.
