Totally agree. I'm not abhorrent to walking.

For me, it's also about avoiding the idiots who think they can park 5" from my driver's side door and who think it's find to nick or dent other peoples' cars.

I have a 2-door coupe and the other day, I parked on the end of a row but with my driver side door facing in. But I was way out from the line, obviously giving myself room to open my door (so I thought). Some chucklehead thought that was grand and followed suit but literally only left me 5". I had to crawl through from the passenger side.

In Rome you use whatever space is available. Cars there are REALLY small.

I take the first available. My wife has parking-spot clairvoyance and drives right up to the door and her spot is waiting for her.

I always pull my car in. Sometimes I'll pull through the space.

But I always back my truck into spaces especially if it's busy in the lot or I know the lot is going to get full before I'm leaving.

How do I park? I park expertly, and with a seldom seen elan. It's a sight to behold.

When the backup camera appeared it simply became too easy NOT to back in. And not only is exiting faster, but SAFER since you can actually see what you are pulling out into.

I usually near the row of parking cars to my right slowly until my display signals me that there is enough room between them for my vehicle. Then I activate the parking assistant, keep the hands off the wheel and watch my car parking itself in automatic mode. Works perfectly .

I was skeptical and complained. (This is a Nebraska.) Manager at DMV said it is “an automatic fail” and you can get a ticket for doing it on public parking lots.

Didn’t dig any deeper than that.

I didn't vote because it all depends on the space and how the lot is laid out. If it is a squared lot not diagonal and I can pull through I will. I never take up two spaces unless I am pulling a trailer and will always park as far away as possible or park where the most sides are protected. I am also anal as hell about being centered in my space. I must be centered in my space.

I park like a horse in a corral.....I back in. That way when they open the gate I can bolt out.

what ever direction I slip into a space, I always do the following: Leave it in gear(I don't have an automatic), handbrake pulled on hard, key out and turn the steering wheel until the latch engages, radio turned up full blast, doors locked.... that's on the modern car.
On the Bugeye Sprite; in gear, handbrake on, key in the ignition. Driver in place. car not left unattended. There is no steering lock, door locks or radio, (just listen to the exhaust music) ... hell there isn't even external door handles.

That's because you are a decent human being. The entire social contract behind parking crumbles when people overlook this bedrock principle.
