Don't know what the hell I'm doing wrong but I'm putting strings on a Squirrel 51 fitted with a B500 and the arm won't stay down?!

By which I mean it's raised above the fretboard and the spring keeps falling out.

    What am I doing wrong?!

My guess is you attached the strings to the bigsby such that they are going under rather than over the shaft.

I thought from your thread title alone that it could have been due to having a beer in your hand. :)

It's a not uncommon affliction known as knowitallitis. A famous sufferer of this disease is Hermione Granger.

Looks to me that the low “E” string is the only one installed properly.

Delightfully un-PC and you beat me to it Audept. I wouldn't have been able to come up with that pic but would have said something about the beloved "leader" but that might have got me banned for a month or more so - well done mein Führer!

Sadly non of us are helping you Hammerhead but at least you can see that we're a bunch of fun lovin' idiots. There are, however, some amongst us who should be able to help you out so be patient, I'm sure somebody'll be along to help you before too long, but if he answers to the name of Speer then be aware that he is an architect and not a genuine guitar tech.

All those round parts that the strings touch on a Bigsby are known as "the learning curves." You've got a B5 which not only has a learning curve, but two.

Can't really blame a learning curve, I've had my Gretsch since 2003 and never been so dumb before.
I'm in Scotland. I had enjoyed a whisky or two. :)

Well then, there's your problem... you only had two!
I thought is was a well-known fact that stringing a Bigsby requires at least four drams... and that's just for beginners... experienced Bigsby folks generally go for at least half a bottle. But don't worry, you can work your way up to it!
