I've been hankering for a double jet for awhile. I'm leaning towards the various recent electromatic series due to cost and better options of looks than the pro-lines.

As far as I can tell there are only 3 major differences between the G5232T and the G5245T FSR.

    G5232T.png G5245T.png

    Fretboard Wood
    Laurel VS Black Walnut

Color - it makes it sound better
Midnight Sapphire VS Two Toned Casino Gold/White.

    Electronic Control Layout
Standard Electromatic set up VS weird 1 vol pot for 2 pups and no tone pot/switch.

They're basically the same cost and both would require my anal-retentive attention to upgrades:
-B3C-Vcut w/ tension bar add on (if possible).
    -Upgraded Compton or dBridge.
    -Zer0Glide Fret Nut.
    -Locking tuners.
    -Fretboard stained black.
-pup upgrades would be determined later in the future.

I bought a gold one identical to the one you’re considering and it’s definitely a keeper! I had to do the usual cleanup of nut slots and glued the buzzing bridge parts with clear nail polish. Fretboard access is somewhat limited because of the neck heel but I don’t spend a lot of time there. The stripped down controls are nice and I like the Blacktops on this axe (I upgraded to TVJ’s on my 5420). All things considered it’s a fantastic guitar with a great feeling neck.

You might want to check the neck heel on the gold one. I have a 2018 5445 that has an obtrusive neck heel, and I have a 2019 5232 that has a much-improved neck heel. The FSR might still have the old style heel.

Yes, the 2018 has a longer neck heel (up to about the 15th or 16th fret), but the 2019’s have thinner necks. Arthritis in my thumbs forced me to seek out the earlier model (FSR) as I find thinner necks painful to play. :(

Damn, how did that one get by me? I hadn’t noticed that the new one was thinner. Surely it can’t be much different, or am I just that inattentive?

You should get on the gold one.

My first Gretsch was an old Electromatic Double Jet in silver.

I would have gone with the gold one but the abbreviated controls have made me pause... The blue one looks great too!

I test drove a 2019 Double Jet at GC - wasn’t comfortable in my geezer mitts. I’ve seen the specs list the newer ones as “thin U” and the FSR’s as “U” and “standard U”

My FSR Casino Gold/Snowcrest White neck is nearly identical in shape to my 2012 5420: the most comfortable guitars I’ve owned (or played).

Blue is objectively the best colour, so there's that.
