I bought my 18 year old son a Gretsch Electromatic Pro Jet and a Hughes & Kettner amp for his bday. He's in a band St Benedicts (check em out on spotify) and it rekindled my need for a guitar. He's a lefty so i can't play his!! It's been some 27 years since I owned an electric guitar, an old Gibson Les Paul copy.

Christmas morning just gone, I opened the gift from my 18 year old son, a new Gretsch Streamliner G2622T. I am loving this guitar and fits with my Rockabilly, Blues, Rock n Roll, Jazz taste in music. Been using the boys amp but he wants it back (how inconsiderate) so I'm now looking for an amp. Currently thinking about a Epiphone Firefly DSP30. Would value any suggestions of which amp is best for my taste in sound/music.

Happy to have found this forum, cheers!

    Welcome here.

It would help if you could tell us what kind of sound you are looking for and how much money you want to spend on the amp.

    Welcome to Gretsch-Talk, Wookiee!

I agree with loudnlousy. If we could get some idea of what you want in an amp, as well as your price range, we could make some good recommendations.

Thank you to all for your welcome messages. To answer loudnlousy and livingmydream question, I really like a 50s Rockabilly/blues, warm tones and on a budget of about£250/300.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a suggestion, Check out the "Bugera all tube V5 amp. It also has reverb. My buddy just picked it up. It's under 200.00, I believe it comes in at $199.00
Perfect for home use and in your budget. If you go to zzounds you will be able to read up on it. It's a small tube amp. It packs a lot if punch if you're just getting back.

    Howdy! Welcome to the asylum.
I had an Epi amp with the DSP FX. It was fine for trying out FX, but limited in the variability of them. The price is good, tho, and Epi amps aren't too shoddy. It's a good starting point.

Actually, I'd suggest a simpler basic amp, and add the FX you really want as you can afford them. I'd suggest a tube amp for your musical tastes rather than solid state. For home use, 30 watts would be overkill. 15 watts is enough for small gigs---if you need more, use a mike.

    Welcome Wookiee ! :)

Ha ! Don't show your son this... :D

    That said,

    - my Daugther plays guitar but she's Right-Handed... :(
    - my Son doesn't play guitar... :(

So finally, we are in a similar situation, Wookiee !;)

I second the Bugera V5 to check out and have one for a bedroom amp. It’s got a power attenuator, head phone jack, Reverb, and handles pedals really well. Being all tube it’s decently loud. I still find it hard to believe you can get an amp this good for that price. Of course if the budget is higher the selection to choose from grows but this is worth trying out for sure.

I forgot to add that I’ve had mine a little over two years now with no real problems. It did develope a slight rattle which went away when I found a loose screw. I had used the below video to find it. And although it’s a V5 in video it’s great in diagnosing on any amp really. The V5 loves my Atomic Brain and really comes alive with it too.

Just realized I forgot to say welcome in my first post here to Wookiee. Welcome to the Gretsch world! Lovely guitar and I always dig that Flagstaff Red.
