I'm part Irish, so I love this time of year. This past week I taught the Ukuladies two Irish tunes as well, and before our meeting, I decided to decorate Scarlett and send her photo out to get the gals in the right frame of mind!

This is one of the tunes I am teaching them how to play:

Have a great day everyone! Now back to your green beer...and eggs...and ham... (if you are in the US)

"Whiskey in the Jar" is one of the most covered tunes I've come across. I like the Kildares version musically, tho they destroy the lyrics. My 2YO grandson comes running when I play it and starts dancing. He even knows much of the refrain. As of late, I've been listening to a lot of Irish music---it's the basis of much American music like bluegrass, country, rock, and more.

Me darlin' sainted mother-in-law was an Irish lass, a Dennis. I come from South Bend, home of the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, and even worked at ND for a short while. Top o' the mornin' to ye all!

It was an interesting experience trying to teach them that, especially the first line of the chorus! It's probably one of the most confusing songs lyrically as depending on what part of Ireland you are in, they have a totally different story. The girl's name can be different, the location and even what happens to the person singing.

I love Irish music, I've got a bunch of CD's that I listen to fairly often. I'm working on learning "The Sky Road" by Frances Black, but I've got to get my voice back up to snuff again thanks to not only having a sinus infection, but allergies and flying twice in four days. I could never be a regular lead singer with all of my throat issues. :(:mad:
