These articles and video are all about Fender but I though some of you may find them interesting. Also, I'm shamelessly fishing for a possible connection...is Abigail Ybarra, mentioned in the video article winding pickups, the inspiration for the ABBY switch on the Atomic Brain and the BS301 Mystery Brain? Sorry if I'm putting you on the spot Mr Wired Turtle ;-). Anyhoo, found the interview with Mr. Fullerton interesting.

I think that the ABBY name comes Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein"---Abby Normal. It's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Abigail Ybarra wound tons of Fender pickups over the years, and is truly responsible for the sound of Fenders.

Abby Normal....yup. That's my girlfriend's favorite movie, we watch it once or twice a year, especially around Halloween. Thanks for the info. It's so interesting to read into the history of these instruments. Gretsch's is a fascinating one, for sure.

One of the coolest aspects of the movie---all of the "scientific apparatus" used in the laboratory was the same gear used in the original movies. One guy owned all of it and kept renting it out for movie props for decades.

I think all of those craftsmen and craftswomen (especially Abigail) should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

So I rabbit holed this a little bit 'cause I was curious. This is a quote from the RRHOF site in the category department. I think it would be a cool nod to the creators of the instruments, recording technology, pedals, amps, etc. to have a spot there.

    Ahmet Ertegun Award

This award (which was formerly known as the non-performer category) honors songwriters, producers, disc jockeys, record executives, journalists and other industry professionals who have had a major influence on rock & roll.

For one Christmas, my daughter got me the "Making of Young Frankenstein" book. Mel Brooks has three movies in the AFI's Top 100 Movies---YF, Blazing Saddles, and The Producers. Comedy genius!
