Anybody knows this brand? They look like cheapos but potentially worth a few mods. This one caught my eye as gretschy enough:|iid:1

Looks like your typical chinese rip-off seller of shoddy guitars.

Years ago, I picked up an Oscar Schmidt OE40 hollowbody in a natural finish. For a lower end hollowbody, it was actually a pretty nice guitar - not Gretsch nice, but nice. The thing is that there are always trade-offs to reduce price, and you either end up modding, or you start wondering about upgrading to a better quality guitar. I have managed to trade up in quality - not all high end, but every guitar that I have pleases my ears and hands, so I am happy with what I have.

Oh, I just remembered that I do have a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar, but it's at the upper end of the lower end, if that makes sense, and it's just a fun guitar for me, not one that I see myself playing for others.

I liked the neck alot on the delta king
I found mine on CL for $150
Blacktops and guts pulled from a new 5420 at Seigler for $35
    B30 for $90
Tom Jazz Swing flatwounds - $23
    Jack plate - $6
I expect to have something decent when Im done now that I have accumulated the necessary parts over about 3 years.

I had a VM Jag, had all kinds of ideas to upgrade it and realized it would be to expensive, it was pretty good though but i traded it off. My new Mexican Strat is better than it could have ever been for less money if you factor in mods, Strat needs nothing except maybe a GFS steel vibrato block ( 25 bux).

Thanks all for enlightening me. I probably won't purchase one but wanted to share because this one looks pretty cool. An impulse buy is never totally out of the equation though...

yes i own one. when i moved to sweden i had to leave all my good guitars in london along with my gretsch which pains me a bit. since living here i have bought six cheap guitars and out of those six the grote was the best by a mile. if you look on ebay my model has nothing but good reviews. i did need to shave down a fret or two and shave down an inlay but these things are no big deal for me. i may have just been lucky and got a good one? it's the only guitar i play right now but i really do love it, and it's not a chibson people! i wouldn't risk it if i am totally honest, i bet it is a gamble. thumbnail_IMG_7816.jpg
