Now that I own my first Gretsch, G2420, I am thinking about changing my Chromatic II tailpiece for the G- Cutout Tailpiece. Is this possible, being that the Cut-Out is shorter in length?
Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

I think that there are two different lengths for the G-tailpiece.

It’s completely doable, but you’ll likely need to make a few new screw holes at the end. As you mentioned you’ll have to deal with a shorter length. Also know there are three lengths available (new), 2 Pro models that aren’t cheap, and the Electromatic plate that is the best deal for the buck. I believe the short Pro model is too short, the Electro is in the middle (4.5 inch), and shorter than the long Pro model (5.5 inch), which is still shorter than a vintage G-plate. Too short a plate means you could have trouble with certain string brands.

Since a new long G-plate was so expensive anyways, I jumped on a vintage ‘58 plate, which is 6.25 inches long. I know, it’s just a Streamliner, but now it really is a Streamliner :D
