I have an aluminum Compton for my G5420TG-59 (i love this model name), and it worked great, but really wanted to try a basic Gretsch rocking bar.
I installed it today, and I think I like it. It’s brass so it tames the brightness, and the rocking works well with my wild bigsby use. The intonation is great too.
Not ready to sell the Compton just yet, but I’m going to keep this on for a while.
Also, this guy is GOLD, so it matches the rest of the hardware (with the exception of the Bigsby). It’s a much more classic look to my eyes.
    Thanx for looking!

For sure! I got rid of the stock adjustomatic as soon as possible when my Compton showed up.
I liked the Compton, but I’ve wanted to try a standard rocking bar like this for a long time.
I think I like this bar more than the Compton on this guitar. I certainly get more “wolf tones” from behind the bridge with this bar bridge. I’m a f’n wolfman, so I like it!
    And it just looks cool!

Looking GOOD. One thing about the aluminum Bigs/ Gold hardware mix on a Gretsch, is that you can go with a gold/brass or chrome/SS/ AL bridge, and either looks great.

Love the bar bridge, my favorite. I've switched around several times. Still have a Gretsch chrome bar in my parts drawer. Guess that I need to by another guitar for it! Lol

Yes. I also have a RBB on my G6119LH :

As you can see below, I pinned the base. Less viewable is the re-radiusing that I had to do to the RBB to make it match the 10" measured radius of my G6119LH fretboard. The RBB original radius was 18" and the center strings were buzzing on the frets...

    A+!

Yeah, the aluminum Compton matched my bigs really well visually, but I like the elegant look of this gold bar. Now I’m thinking a gold V bigsby may be in my future, but first I want to save up for some new electronics/pickups. I may go crazy in that department. Thinking of installing a tone switch by the pickup selector. But the new harness/pickups will be pretty expensive. Gotta save my pennies!

That pinning method looks great! I’ve seen you show pictures of that in another thread.
The bridge is secured on the 5420t. The posts are drilled right into the body.

Not too often. I drive thru it to get to NH or Boston often.
I’ll go to Kittery probably once a year to shop at the trading post and the Levis outlet.

I love "V" cut Bigs, but honestly, I'm not a fan of the gold plated Bigs, any style. To my eyes, yours looks perfect as is.

Also a fan of the tone switch. Many don't like them, but I love them. Thinking about adding one to my Phoenix (I know, I know, as I run and hide.)

What pups are you thinking about? A lot of good ones out there.

You've done a great job with your axe. Love it.

    Thanx for the kind words!
Well, which pickups is a good question.
I’m thinkin a new TV Jones harness with a tone switch to start,
    With a classic+ bridge/T armond neck.
    OR
    Classic+ bridge/magnatron neck
    OR
Keep it simple and use two HS Filter'Trons.
I’m not in too much of a rush. It’ll be pricey whatever I choose.

The stock Rockingbar bridge always worked fine for me. The simple construction is genius.

    Looks great!

Hm, pickups ... I'm thinking about this, too, at the moment. Currently, I tend towards a pair of Magna'Trons, as twang is king, and hum is ... hum. Hum sucks - and these are the brightest FT-like* pickups TVJ makes, according to the chart posted here

    http://www.gretsch-talk.com/threads/filtertrons-gretsch-tv-jones-pickup-choices.171912/

I watched a few comparison videos on youtube and, although youtube's sound is only .mp3, they sound a serious bit brighter than the stock Filters here:

But ... no hurry here as well. That's pretty expansive, $ 300+ ... well, I have all the time I want to decide... The difference in it's construction to an all-accurate Filter'tron doesn't bother me - other may disagree...

*: kind of ... not in total - they have no bar magnet...
