IMG_0002.JPG IMG_0006.JPG IMG_0003.JPG IMG_0008.JPG My dad played rhythm guitar in a dance band in his 20s shortly after the Depression. Life took over and he didn't play again until he bought a Gretsch in his 80s (lived to 97). Bought in 1990s I think. Originally ordered a Gibson Sunburst as I recall but after many delays, he accepted this Gretsch as substitute. He liked it. I just gave it to my new son-in-law, a CPA who plays lead guitar in a band on the side. I know nothing about these instruments, and am hoping someone can tell me the background on this one and if I have made a good gift to my son in law. Thank you.

That's a great gift! Grandpa's guitar is a classic. You did good! I inherited my father-in-law's fiddle and guitar---a Sears Harmony that suffered some injuries in a car accident. Nowhere near as nice as a G410, tho it's an honor to have it.

Looks like a great gift! I had a very similar model. It's very suited to jazz, especially when flatwound strings are used. It looks like it may be a Japanese built model. Others here will know for sure.

Thank you. Good to hear your enthusiastic response. Now if this can only be the guitar that moves down the generations.

Superb instrument... Add to this that it's probably a very rare instrument, maybe a few units made only !

I hope that your new son-in-law merits her...:D;)

    A+!

That is a wonderful guitar. I had a G400 just like that but without the pickup. It was the best acoustic guitar I've ever played. Having it signed by Fred Gretsch is also a big plus! I think it is a fantastic gift.

Beautiful guitar that, they were actually built by the guys at Heritage Guitars, less than 30 or so IIRC.

That's the guys names along with Fred Gretsch who signed it.
    It is a 1992.

    Oh,and welcome to GT Raylan!

    Thank you for the welcome.
You’re the first to give the date made. Appreciate that. I’m beginning to understand these people and their stories are special. I’m sorry we didn’t explore this long ago. My dad would have loved it.
    All the best.

What a beautiful instrument. That would be a fun one to play. I love those harp tailpieces and I'm curious about the pickup.

I hope my son in law, after he plays the guitar for awhile, will post back into this thread with his thoughts.

I’ll encourage him to post a clip when he gets comfortable with it.
