    Thank you, Guys ! :)

I didn't know the existence of this model  : thanks for the tip ... The Grand Sister of the G5220, in some way (but at 4x the price :D). I'd like to find the pickguard in silver version, but it's probably as hard to find as the Broad'Trons BT65 pickups o_O !

I quickly tested the G5220LH to see if everything was right : as usual, the electronics are wired backwards . With full open controls, the Broad'Trons sounded powerful and bright... But I think they were too close from the strings. A more accurate test will reveal them better, once the guitar in a correct setup.

I still did not opened the control cavities plates - I'll take pictures.

    A+!

Here are the cavities opened, as is - note that's a LH model :

The usual mess, wired backwards... I think that all the pots are A500K, because of the total absence of progressivity, but I did not checked it yet. The wiring is the classic Gretsch Tone Pot circuit, plus a treble bleed on the MV (the same as found in my G5622TLH : 250K+6n8).

    A+!

    Thanks !

What amazes me is the existence of that G6228 Jet with Broad'Tron BT65 PUs, as unveiled to me by jfassett.... With finally not so much cosmetic differences from the cheap G5220 with Broad'Trons ! o_O

Yes, I nonetheless note a quality improvement vs my (now sold) G5435LH from 2012.

I noticed also that in RH, the G5220 exists in other fancy colors, notably a Casino Gold version :

I set the pickups on my 5220 a bit lower than the TV Jones recommendation. There's quite a lot of "growl" to the pickups otherwise.!

    Thanks !

Sorry jfassett, for the moment, the guitar returned in her carton.... I will make a complete "Custom Jet" setup with 10-52 strings, Bigsby B3, roller bridge installation, revised wiring (not backwards !), probably a new set of tuners and a PQL-6060-L0 TUSQ-XL nut by the same occasion.

Yes, it seems that the tuners are not "premium gear tightness" and may benefit a replacement with a 16:1 / 18:1 set of Grovers or Gotoh : it would be my only possible complaint for instance, but it's to be confirmed.

I may have already written it, but it's a lightweight guitar as is : 3.4kg.

    A+!

Keep us posted, really want to see how she turns out! I've thought about different tuners as well, the stock tuners are not great, however, the do the job.
I wish I could find those BT 65 Broadtron pickups in the 6228, I'd really like to give those a try!

Looking at your photos it's hard to tell, but are the tops on the G5220 a thick cap or a thin ply?

    Thanks !

Well, the bottom of the top being neatly routed where the pots are installed, this makes me think that the G5220 has rather a somewhat thick top, made from a clear wood, reputedly Maple reading the specs, while the body is made from chambered Mahogany.

    The G5220LH :

To be compared with the G6228LH :

The Bigsby B3LH is on order, along with a set of Gotoh SG381 tuning machines.
The ABM2400C bridge is on the road to France (thanks BorderRadio ;)).
I have the TUSQ XL in stock.

    Wait and See...

Hi all! New to the forum, but have previously owned 2 Gretschs', which i sold in bouts of temporary insanity and now miss horribly. I'm also a lefty and am on the verge of buying either a 5220 or 5230 and need some advice, so i think i've come to the right place. I'm torn between the Broadtron and Filtertron! I'm looking for a thicker sound than i get with my other guitars (p90's and Don Mare single coils) and i know either of these 2 will give me that. My question is this: Will the Broadtron take me too far away from the 'Gretsch' sound and into full PAF territory? I want thick and sparkly, so i can't decide if i should stick with the Filtertron or go for the Broadtron. Any advice would be great. I'm currently leaning toward the 5220, but that might be because of the sheer beauty of the metallic cherry....
