Last night Mrs Audept and I went to see Fleetwood Mac in Sydney. My friend of 40 years was their sound mix engineer so we got to sit at the FOH mix console with him and swap stories from our many concerts together. As always, he delivered a flawless mix at a comfortable level with punchy low end and great vocal and guitar sounds. The band was excellent, especially with the addition of Neil Finn and Mike Campbell. Mick Fleetwood was belting out a huge drum sound and the band was tight and powerful. Mike Campbell’s lead guitar work was melodic and toneful. We loved it. I had done a few tours with the band back in the ‘80s and this was the tightest I had ever heard them play. They all looked like they were totally enjoying themselves on stage. A magical night! Seated at the mixer I didn’t feel like I should be shooting iPhone photos across my mate while he was working, so I refrained. I did however snap a photo of my working crew pass and the set list off the mix desk.
