I thought I had cured the GAS for one of these elusive creations....but alas........no....... Has anyone had/got experience of these?

  2. I played a few casinos with two pickups. If you got the right one, it was ok. There is a similar guitar in my local craigslist for 850. Forgot the name, but three pickups. 5 way switch. Not sure what the one your looking at costs, but there are also a few other 3 pick ups p90 imports.

I have one, in natural blonde. It's basically the Epiphone version of a Gibson ES-5, though I believe the Zephyr/Emperor/Broadway body is derived from 1950's Epiphone designs, rather than being a copy of the Gibson. I'm a big fan of those big-bodied Epiphones & have an Emperor Regent as well, & hope to finish off the set with a nice Broadway one day. Anyway, the Zephyr plays really nicely. I find the neck extremely comfortable, string spacing just works right for me. It's much less acoustically resonant than the Emperor, which stands to reason, given 3 pickups screwed to the top, versus a floating pickup in the Emperor. Mine is Peerless made & I suspect the Zephyrs were discontinued before Gibson moved all the Epiphone production out of Korea. I found the stock P90s really noisy, & started an upgrade process to replace them with noiseless P90s, & to add a Bigsby, but that whole modification deal stalled over a year ago when my wife got ill, so the lovely Zephyr sits unbuilt with all its parts off. I hope to revive that project soon.
I paid $450 through a Craigslist ad a few years ago for mine. That kind of deal may be over now that they're becoming hard to find. There is a similar Peerless 3 P90 model but I think that's a thin-body. Good luck in your search.

There's one for sale locally here...asking $850. Guitars are so much cheaper everywhere else!

Actually Rob, $800-900 seems to be the asking price today for the Blues Zephyr. I have one as a gigging/session 'project', basically done.

The guitar was about a 6 as is. I added Duncan Custom Shop Staple P-90 pickups, 100% new wiring, 3 way switch, blend knob, new tuners, new engraved truss cover, custom tortoise guard. Etc. This guitar has a gold bigsby also.

It sounds really fantastic now. Still need to find the right bridge. Ill be demoing the pickups for the Duncan Custom shop in a couple of weeks. They are really fantastic. To the OP, its a worthwhile guitar, it not Gretsch quality but it is a good platform for upgrades. Cheers, RG

The one I was looking at was a sunburst with Lollar P90 upgrade and out of phase switch. I think the guy wanted £650 - which I guess is about average. I have since changed my mind about owning one simply because I couldn't really see it fitting my (crap) playing style :)

I have one of these babies, with the Bare Knuckle P-90 upgrades. I've just had a bit of work done on it - the pickguard's missing, and they're obviously difficult to come by, so I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to take a minute or two to let me have the pickguard dimensions so that I can get one made. Thanks in advance! :)

    I like that.

Ps: GJK1959 - If everyone waited to buy a guitar til their playing improved, Gretsch and everybody else may as well lock up and go home.

Sold my EZBD a while back. Couldn't dig the middle pup being in the way all the time.

I'd love to get one, one day. I have Broadway which has a beautiful sound, but I'm so used to my 6120 that I find it too deep. I suspected the EZBD is the same depth....

I had the same problem. The huge body, long scale, chunky neck and middle pup all made it hard work. I even find my 6120 a bit of a handful after playing my Sparkle jet for a few weeks.

I had it's big brother, an Emperor. Beautiful sound, gorgeous guitar....but just TOO BIG for me. I regret selling it though.

The ZBDLX has the same body as an Emperor. Both very nice guitars.
